North Karelia’s Joensuu administrative centre is a tranquil and relaxed town. Despite its almost 76,000 inhabitants, for Finnish conditions already quite a lot, you will hardly experience something like hectic here. This is certainly not least due to the location of this university town in the far east of Finland. From Helsinki you need at least five hours by car, whereas from Joensuu to Russia it is only a stone’s throw away. However, I can promise you: the long journey is definitely worth it!
