Jelgava listens to three different names: the German name Mitau, the Latvian Zemgala, and the current name Jelgava. It is located in the centre of Latvia, in Zemgale, a very fertile and green plain along the river Lielupe. By car you can drive from Riga to the south on the E77 for about 45 minutes.

With 67,000 inhabitants Jelgava is the fourth largest city in Latvia and has, like all Latvian cities have a long Tradition. In doing so, there are above-average numbers of young people living here. Jelgava is a student town, most of which study at the Agricultural University of the country. It is located in one of the magnificent buildings of the whole Baltic states, the Jelgava baroque castle.
