What County is Hopkinsville?

The first white settlers settled in Hopkinsville in 1796, a Brown family from Tennessee. Shortly thereafter, the town was founded. At the beginning of the 20th century, the city was the centre of social unrest, in which the tobacco growers fought against the monopoly buyer American Tobacco Company. In the wake of riots on 7 December 1907, three tobacco houses were burned. Memories of this confrontation (also called Black Patch Tobacco Wars) and much more can be found in the remarkable Pennyroyal Area Museum. 10 miles away, Fairview is home to the only president of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis. Madisonville is an industrial and mining town (coal).
