Where is Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve?

Just 37 km west of Austin, Texas, in the middle of a hilly Chaparral area is a breathtaking natural oasis. Hamilton Pool is a natural spring that gushes from the sandstone and is fed by an underground river. It also supplies the small tributaries and the lush Vegetation with various trees and plants around the water basin. The entire area with its enormous freshwater resources has now been designated as a nature reserve.

Most visitors first notice one thing: A Mighty “canopy” of rock above the water basin. This is a remnant of the stone dome that once surrounded the entire grotto until it collapsed more than a century ago. Today, the impressive rock formation serves as a natural source of shade.

The water, which constantly splashes down the cliff 15 m into the cool water, offers a welcome refreshment for sun worshippers and bathing fans.
