Where is Griffith Park?
Griffith Park, the largest urban Park in Los Angeles, is also a 1,700-acre protected area with mountains and canyons on the eastern foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains.
It is a remarkable strip of rugged, hilly wilderness right in the heart of such a sprawling metropolitan area. Here you can choose from more than 80 kilometers of hiking trails through the overgrown Hills, which also take you to the top of Mount Hollywood, the park’s highest peak at 495 meters.
On unpaved paths you can also make your way by mountain bike or on horseback – on guided rides from the Sunset Ranch you will also experience magnificent views of the Hollywood sign.
Griffith Park also has a more cultivated side. Learn about the American West at the Autry National Center. Well-known musicians like to play on the open-air stage of the Greek Theatre. Children can get up close and personal with Koalas and Komodo dragons at the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens. And perched atop a mountainside above Los Angeles is the Griffith Observatory, an Art deco-style observatory that hosts Planetarium screenings year-round, along with movies and special events at the Leonard Nimoy event Horizon and Telescope parties (see the event calendar for details).
