What County is Grand Rapids?
The area of today’s Grand Rapids was discovered from the beginning of the 19th century by missionaries and fur traders. An outstanding figure is the French-Indian fur dealer Medaline La Franboise, who was very successful. A planned settlement of the area took place from 1836. Grand Rapids quickly developed into a centre of the furniture industry, to this day office furniture in particular is produced here.
Like many other settlements, the history of Grand Haven began as a position for fur traders. The city is conveniently located at the mouth of the Grand River in Lake Michigan. In 1867, it was declared a city. To this day, tanneries can be found here.
