Gladstone is one of the most important sea and river ports in the state of Queensland, located 550 kilometers north of Brisbane and 100 kilometers southeast of Rockhampton.
Despite having more than 200 years of foundation, Gladstone remained a small anodyne city of less than 40,000 inhabitants until the second half of the twentieth century, when one of the best and best equipped ports in Australia began to develop on its shores. This impressive port was built because of the need to export the large quantities of coal extracted from the open pit mines located in central Queensland that were just beginning to be exploited.
