Where is Dover International Speedway?

Address: 1131 N Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901
Capacity: 85,000
Length: 1 mi (1.6 km)
Banking: Turns: 24°; Straights: 9°

The “Monster Mile” in Dover is one of the more spectacular Shorttracks with its Banking of 24° and is as steep as Bristol, but with a mile of track twice as large. Although the two straight lines still have a 9° curve increase, however, when accelerating out a similar catapult results as in “Thunder Valley”. The change from 24° to 9° is quite abrupt, so that you are quickly in the wall. Another thing in common with Bristol is the history of the track surface of both race tracks: after initially using the usual asphalt surface, this changed in the mid-1990s at both locations. In Dover and Bristol, the only Cup races are now held on a concrete track.

Since 1969 the spring race has been held in Dover and two years later the autumn race was added. Dover International Speedway is also one of the last three Cup tracks not owned by NASCAR’s “International Speedway Corporation” or Bruton Smith’s “Speedway Motorsports, Inc.“ to be kept. The other two tracks are Pocono and of course the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Dover Motorsports Group is also owned by the Nashville Superspeedway and Gateway International Raceway. However, no races of the other two national NASCAR series are currently held on either track.
