Where is Cromwell New Zealand? Map of Cromwell
Which region is Cromwell in?
Located on the shores of Lake Dunstan, Cromwell has the appearance of a moderna village, but its history dates back to the days of the gold rush of the 1800s. This story is best lived in “Old Cromwell Town”, one of the attractions for visitors.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Cromwell underwent a major transformation due to the construction of the Clyde Dam hydroelectric power station. When construction of the dam was completed in 1992, the valley behind was flooded to create Dunstan Lake. As a consequence, the original site of Cromwell’s historic business district, at the confluence of the Kawarau and Clutha Rivers, is now located at the bottom of the lake.
