Where is Big Bend Ranch State Park?

” Welcome to the other side of nowhere ” is the title of the Big Bend Ranch State Park Homepage. Far from civilization, but in close proximity to Big Bend National Park, is by far the largest and probably least known state Park in Texas.

Here in the most remote part of the state along the Mexican border and the Rio Grande, there are few roads, the terrain is rough and irregular and temperatures are extreme most of the year – Presidio and Lajitas, the two small towns that lie on both sides of the state park, often compete for the hottest place in Texas and in spring and early summer sometimes throughout the USA.

In recent years, the park has done much to improve access along the Rio Grande, but most of the Region remains wild, untouched and difficult to access.

Nevertheless, the route through Big Bend Ranch Park is a real Alternative if you want to return from Big Bend National Park/ Terlingua to New Mexico in the direction of Carlsbad or Tucson. Technically, the detour is only about an hour longer, due to the beautiful landscape and some good hiking opportunities, but you should also plan a little time outside the car.
