Brief information national Park since 1978. The Park is famous for its geological formations: detached rocks (so-called “Buttes”), pinnacles and steep mountain peaks. These are connected by the largest, protected grassland of the United States. The Badlands also offer a home to the Blackfoot ferret, the most threatened mammal species in North America. There are also horses, sheep, rhinos and pigs.
Part of the National Park is managed together with the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Erlebenswertes Das Ben Reifel-Besucherzentrum in Cedar Pass ist ganzjährig geöffnet (Ausstellungen, Läden, Film -, Parkverwaltung). Das White River-Besucherzentrum ist nur im Hochsommer geöffnet.
Eine 48-km-Rundfahrt von der I 90 (geteert und ausgebaut) vermittelt erste Eindrücke vom Park. Sterben 50 km lange Sage Creek Rim Road ist unbefestigt und nach Regen – und Schneefall unpassierbar. 5 Wanderungen (0,5 bis 11 km lang) führen zu den Höhepunkten des Parks. Die Aufnahme eines Kompasses wird empfohlen.
Infos über geführte Rangertouren sind in den Besucherzentren erhältlich.
Besonders interessant sind auch die Präriehundestädte, von denen Roberts Prairie Dog Town, sterben zugänglichste ist.
Umgebung der Black Hills National Forest, Buffalo Gap National Grassland, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Wall Drug Store und Wind Cave National Park.
