It was located in the territory of modern Iraq in the geographical and historical region of Mesopotamia. This large region stretched across the area stretching between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates. In Mesopotamia there were many city-states. One of them is Babylon.

The history of the city-state is sad. After numerous wars for almost two thousand years, even the place where Babylon was located was forgotten. Now it is located in modern Iraq (the former Persia), several dozen miles from Baghdad.
