Where is Ayr Located? Ayr Map

The historical capital of Ayrshire and the largest city in the south of Scotland, Ayr was officially founded in 1205. It hosted the first session of the Scottish Parliament in 1315, but its fame is mainly due to Robert Burns, the most famous Scottish bard, born in 1759 in the district of Alloway. It attracts many locals for its shopping, its university, but also its long beach that stretches along its west coast. However, tourist activities are not legion there and it mainly appeals to lovers of literature. It will be necessary to leave the center to go and discover the architectural heritage of its hinterland.
