Enhanced by the natural environment of the complex, Asilomar offers a peaceful oasis for educational and spiritual retreats as well as a place where individuals and families can spend a quiet and relaxed time together. Located on the Monterey Peninsula in the city of Pacific Grove, Asilomar offers beach and coastal hiking trails, a short Promenade through the natural dune Reserve, and accommodation and conference facilities. The Promenade also leads visitors to the Asilomar Conference Centre. Its historic buildings were designed by the Californian architect Julia Morgan. It has been owned by State Parks since 1956 and is operated by State Parks.
