What country is Ålesund?
A port on the west coast of Norway famous for its Moderna Art Nouveau architecture, with artistic buildings, aquariums, museums and beautiful natural areas to visit.
From the starting point the bus will take us through several underwater tunnels to the island of Giske. This is relatively flat and very fertile, where we will find farms with cows and sheep, grazing in their meadows. The island is known for being the birthplace of the famous Viking Rollo, who was the first Duke of Normandy and an ancestor of the British royal family. We will make a stop at the white marble church built in the XII century. Then we will continue the excursion to visit the beautiful island of Godøy and its typical fishing village, Alnes. In this village we will see the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean from the lighthouse or while walking along the beach.
After having visited the beautiful islands, we are going to travel to the past, specifically a few centuries, to be able to understand how hard was the life that the Norwegians of the past had, subsisting thanks to fishing and agriculture. On the visit to the Sunnmøre Museum we will learn a lot of things. The museum is located in the open air and consists of 55 old houses that we will visit thanks to our guide. Some are open, giving us the opportunity to visit their interior. Inside the main building, there are several exhibitions that we can visit. At the pier we will learn how life was in this part of Norway and how it was changing over the centuries.
