Where are the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a fascinating and exotic destination that attracts thousands of tourists every year.

Established as a political union about fifty years ago, they were previously called “States of the Truce”; a particular name linked to an imposition, dating back to the mid-nineteenth century, by the British against a group of sheikhs who supported pirate activity. In fact, this territory was also known as the “Pirate Coast”.

Despite the charming name, at the time it was definitely not an ideal tourist destination.

Despite a long past made of nomadism, domination of various populations and little fruitful trade, today the United Arab Emirates are considered very rich and developed territories, so as to become the golden oasis of the Arabian Peninsula; all this thanks to oil, discovered between the 50s and 60s.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a state located in the Persian Gulf, consisting of seven emirates united under a single federal entity. The country is placed in a strategic position that, together with its economic characteristics, makes it one of the most important geopolitical players in the entire Middle Eastern area. Thanks to the immense oil resources, which make the UAE one of the largest hydrocarbon exporting countries, the country is in fact able to sustain high levels of growth and well-being, especially in view of its limited territorial extension, as also happens in the cases of Ku. Moreover, thanks mainly to the dynamism of the emirate of Dubai, the UAE has become the most important financial hub in the region.

Such features make them a unique country in the area, which maintains friendly relations with almost all neighbors, as well as with the major Western and Asian powers. Despite some territorial disputes with Saudi Arabia and Iran over the possession of some islands in the Gulf, the country is well integrated into major regional organizations, such as the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). In addition, although the UAE is a partner of the United States in the field of defense, Iran represents a significant economic and trade partner for them. Relations with Iran are one of the specificities compared to the other Gulf countries, which in general have more tense relations with the Islamic Republic due to economic and geopolitical disputes.
