Tunisia is a state of North Africa, with an area of 163.610 km2. It is the Africa of the ancient Romans, including the Byzacenes and the Zeugitanes.

Tunisia is located between the Mediterranean in the North and North-East, Libya and the Sahara in the South, and Algeria in the West. Republic, independent since 1956, Tunisia is divided into 24 governorates. Capital: Tunis. Other major cities : Bizerte, Nabeul, Sousse, Kairouan, Mkasen, Gabes. The total population is 10.5 million inhabitants (2009).
