Where is Yokohama Located?

The city of Yokohama is part of the Tokyo metropolitan area and is located on the western side of Tokyo Bay. Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo and has about 3.7 million inhabitants.

Yokohama gained importance with the opening of the Seaport in the middle of the 19th century. Due to its convenient location on the Bay and its proximity to the capital, Yokohama quickly became an important transhipment point for international maritime traffic and of course it still is today.

Towards the end of the 19th century Yokohama gained the status of a big city.

Today, Yokohama is one of the most important industrial and commercial cities in Japan. The city is also the administrative headquarters of Kanagawa Prefecture.
