Where is Wakulla Springs State Park?

Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park is home to one of the world’s largest and deepest freshwater springs, Wakulla Springs. These springs also form the origin of the Wakulla River which runs through a marsh covered with cypress trees. The Wakulla river flows south, where it empties into the St. Mark’s River after about ten miles. The crystal clear waters of the Wakulla river make it a popular spot for canoeing and kayaking.

Wakulla Springs State Park offers daily guided riverboat tours that offer an insight into Florida’s pristine nature. Every now and then alligators and turtles can be observed while sunbathing. A glass-bottomed boat can also be used to explore the underwater world of Wakulla Springs. The nature trails in the upper part of the park cross about 3000 hectares of untouched forest. Wakulla Springs State Park is the perfect place to observe the birdlife with over 180 bird species. Many migratory birds spend the winter months here.

The Wakulla Springs Lodge was built in 1937. This elegant building with its elegant interiors is located right on the banks of Wakulla Springs. Despite various changes in terms of security, the building still exudes the same charm as it did sixty years ago.
