Where is Waikiki Beach?

The world-famous Waikiki neighborhood is located on the south shore of Honolulu and was once the playground for Hawaiian monarchs. Waikiki means “spewing waters” in Hawaiian and became world famous through its first hotel, the Moana Surfrider, when it was built on the shore in 1901. Today, Waikiki is the most important Hotel and resort area on Oahu and a popular meeting place for visitors from all over the world. Waikiki is best known for its beaches. Each room is only two or three Blocks from the sea, unless it is located directly on the beach. Legendary Hawaiian water sportsman Duke Kahanamoku grew up surfing the waves of Waikiki. The Olympic champion in swimming taught visitors to surf at the turn of the century and later became known as the “father of modern surfing”. Today, the Waikiki Beach Boys maintain the Duke’s legacy by teaching visitors to surf and canoe. The Duke Kahanamoku Statue has become the landmark of Waikiki.
