Southwest of Sedona, in the town of Clarkdale, is the Verde Canyon Railroad, which runs diesel locomotives through the breathtaking landscape. It is undoubtedly one of Arizona’s most beautiful historic panoramas and leads to the Ghost Ranch Perkinsville.

The historic train depot and the John Bell Museum are home to numerous exhibits from the period of historic mining that the museum staff found along the railway line. Numerous photos and information boards illustrate the ghost town of Jerome, the first ranchers, Yavapai Apache Indians and the glorious period of copper mining, for which all of Arizona was then traversed with a fine network of train tracks.

A special eye-catcher in the Verde Canyon Railroad Depot are the Storyboards along the old loading ramp. Here, the history of mining and pioneering spirit is traced in detail and visitors get an authentic impression of how many people, animals and plants lived in the Verde Valley and Canyon more than 100 years ago. The Verde Canyon Railroad Depot in Clarkdale is just two hours from Phoenix and 25 minutes from Sedona, making it ideal for a day trip.
