Where is Urganch Located?

Urgench is the Name of cities, one of which is located in Uzbekistan and second one in Turkmenistan, near the village of Kunya-Urgench and the ruins of the ancient settlement.

Ancient Urgench is located in Turkmenistan’s territory, in the vicinity of the state border. The exact date of creation of the settlement is not known, but according to some written sources it can be assumed that the city already existed in the 1st century AD.

What Country is Urganch in?

It was quite large commercial and industrial city with developed irrigation system. In X-XI century it was the Khoresm capital, but in XIII century the city was destroyed by the Genghis Khan Army, and century after it was completely ruined by Amir Temur. The city struggled for its existence until XVII century, but then it was abandoned with all its mosques, minarets, fortresses and irrigation systems. Today, the ruins of ancient Urgench attract many tourists from all over the world.
