Built between 1793 and 1823, the neoclassical building consists of a rotunda with a dome to which the two parliamentary wings connect. The Capitol is 229 meters long, up to 107 meters wide and its highest point is 88 metres high. It was listed on the list of Historic civil Engineering Landmarks by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1986 and has been a National Historic Landmark since 1960.
