Tshikapa is the capital of the province of Kasai in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located about 64 km north of the Angolan border and 193 km west of the provincial capital Kananga.

Tshikapa has been known since its foundation in the early 20th century as an important location for diamond mining. Still today, diamonds are the most important source of income. However, due to the exploitation by foreign companies and private companies, Tshikapa is the poorest city in the DRC.
