The Sleeping Bear Dunes are impressively large. When you visit the National Park, you should definitely go to the Visitor Center first, maybe pay for the park pass there (but you can also do it later on the dunes), watch the film about the legend about the dunes and get information material.

The Highlight are certainly the dunes themselves, here you should definitely stop. We would have liked to do the Scenic Drive, but it was closed at night due to a storm. But one has seen that the Rangers have made great efforts to be able to open it again quickly.

You can park directly in front of the dunes, then the Ascent can begin. Unfortunately, you are not alone, but you should not expect to have such a Highlight for yourself. The further you walk, the fewer people are on the road. The first ones turn around after the first Dune, but miss the great view of the lake.

We walked about half the way until we could enjoy the view of the lake. Most of them turn around, the beach itself should not be so spectacular and running and climbing on the dunes is a bit exhausting. It is recommended to walk in shoes, but barefoot makes it more fun. You should also take water with you.
