Where is Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk?
A wide beach and waves in which you can splash are in themselves inviting. Now add a colorful wooden boardwalk with rides, games and music – Who could resist? Obviously not many people, because in the summer this popular boardwalk has become a ritual for countless Californian families – a wonderful place for them to relax and play like the cheerful locals.
Although there are numerous attractions on this Promenade, the big Star is the “Giant Dipper” (“giant trowel”), a sturdy wooden roller coaster that was opened in 1924 and has since been screaming, shouting and cheering – sometimes even with closed eyes. But it is no longer the only thrill here. Meanwhile, the 38 Meter high tower “Double Shot” has been added for all adrenaline Junkies. Those who love it more comfortably can also ride the carefully restored Looff Carousel (named after the Holstein Karl Looff) from 1911, on which the wooden horses have tails made of real horsehair. In a covered arcade, games such as Laser Tag, mini golf, Skee Ball and countless video games are loud but also fun. Finish your visit by looking at it all again from the air-with a ride on the “Sky Glider” cable car with great views of the beach, attractions and the Santa Cruz Mountains. In summer, films are shown on the beach after dark on Wednesdays, and there are free concerts on Fridays.
