Where is Samarkand Located?
Samarkand is located in the valley of the Zarafshan River and is the second largest city of Uzbekistan. The city dates back to the same period as Babylon or Rome and can thus look back on a more than 2,500 year old history.
During this time, the city experienced many uprisings and subjugations, such as under Alexander the great, the Arab conquest, the conquest by Genghis Khan and finally, of course, the capture by Tamerlane. However, these conquests were always accompanied by a development of culture, such as the mixture with Iranian, Indian, Mongolian and a little western and Eastern culture.
