The first documented mention of the town name dates back to 1354, when Jan Pakosławic (gest. 1374) by King Kasimir III The Great (1310-1370) received the founding privilege under the Magdeburg law. There was already a parish church in 1363 and a parish school in 1406. In the 15th century, the city developed rapidly, connected with its location on major trade routes. In the period from the end of the 16th century until the end of the 40s of the 17th century, the town became a centre of culture. At the end of the 19th century Rzeszów experienced its golden age: in 1591 the town hall was built, in 1600 the construction of the castle began, in 1629 the Bernhardiner-Burgkloster was donated.
