Where is Reid State Park?

Reid State Park bears the special honor of being the first state-owned Saltwater Beach in Maine. In 1946, the wealthy businessman and Georgetown resident Walter E. Reid donated Land to the state of Maine to be preserved forever, and a few years later Reid State Park became a reality.

Today, thousands of visitors enjoy the park’s long, wide sandy beaches such as Mile and Half Mile, which are rare in Maine. The beaches, which are used as a recreational source, are also important nesting sites for endangered microbeads and pipefish, as well as resting and feeding areas for other shorebirds. Rarer than beaches on the Maine coast are large sand dunes like Reid’s.
