Where is Qarshi Located?

Qarshi is a city Uzbekistan. But few people know that QARSHI is a significant historical city. In 2008, Qarshi celebrated its 2700-year history, was once one of the most important cities in Sogdia. Names of many rulers and prominent personalities of the past are associated with the city.

What Country is Qarshi in?

According to UNESCO investigations, there was already a settlement on the site of the present-day city in the VII century BC. The city was located on the Great Silk Road that led from Central Asia to India and Afghanistan, and was an important object for many conquerors. In the IV century BC, Alexander the Great fought for the city and was fascinated by the resistance of the inhabitants. The freedom loving people have always tried to defend their independence.
Until the 14th century the city was called Nakhshab (in some sources Nasaf), but in 1364 a fortified palace was built by order of Timur Tamerlan and the city got its current name – QARSHI (translated from the Turkish language as “fortification”).
