The Place de la Concorde is located between the Jardin des Tuileries, the gardens of the Louvre, and the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the famous shopping and Grand Boulevard. With an area of 68,470 m2, it is the largest square in Paris and the second largest in France.

What Country is Place de la Concorde in?

The Place de la Concorde was built between 1755 and 1776 by order of King Louis XV. Its original Name was place Louis XV and at the centre of the square at that time was an equestrian statue of the King. During the riots of the French Revolution, the Statue was replaced by a statue of liberty and the Square was renamed Place de la Révolution. In 1793, the famous Guillotine was installed here, on which King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette were publicly executed, as well as another 1117 people. With the end of the revolutionary period, the Square got its current name Place de la Concorde.
