Where is Pietermaritzburg Located?

Pietermaritzburg was founded in 1838 by the voortrek core and the Name reminded initially of the Voortrekker leader Pieter Mauritz Retief, of whose first name was also the Name of the town (Initially, it was also the name of Pieter Mauritz Burg). 100 years later, it was decided by decree that the name of the city should not only remember Pieter Retif but also Gerit Maritz, who died shortly before the city was founded at the Battle of the Blood River.
