The mecca of every San Francisco visitor is Pier 39, which opened on October 4, 1978, and thus celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008. The “festival marketplace”managed by Moor + South / PIER Management Co.offers more than 110 shops, 11 Restaurants and numerous attractions. Built from” historic ” planks of Piers 3 and 34 from 1910, it is the attraction in itself, a self-runner just like Las Vegas.
No sightseeing tour, no matter how short, leaves this destination out of the question. Accordingly, this place is highly frequented. You meet people from all parts of the world who stroll along the wooden walkways equipped with a camera. Locals are mercilessly outnumbered here and avoid the place during the day. Pier 39 is the second most visited place in California with 10.5 million visitors per year.
The Pier developed in the Gold Rush era, when Chinese fishermen first fished with their junks off the coast to provide the surrounding area with food. Later they were replaced by Italians who built stalls on the beach.
The entire Pier consists of a wide wooden jetty dotted with wooden shops. However, these no longer sell fish, and if only in prepared Form for appropriate money.
