The Opera Garnier (also called Palais Garnier) is the old Opera house of Paris and is located close to the Grands Boulevards. In 1861 Napoleon III gave the architect Charles Garnier the task of building him a new opera house with a protected entrance for the King. This royal entrance can still be seen on the left side of the Opera House, where a ramp leads directly into the building.
