Where is Oujda Located?

Oujda is located in eastern Morocco and is a city with about 600,000 inhabitants. The Moroccan city is located approximately twelve kilometers from the Algerian border and 65 kilometers from the Mediterranean sea. In the North of Oujda, bordering on the Beni-Snassen mountains.

History of Oujda
The Moroccan city was founded in the tenth century and was the capital of the Zanata tribe. During the thirteenth century the city was rebuilt. In 1844 and 1859 the city was conquered twice by the French.
The city was used by the French as a military base to keep the eastern Morocco under control. Oujda’s cityscape is more modern than other Moroccan cities.

In Oujda there is hardly any tourism, but nevertheless the city has several sights to offer. Among the highlights of the Souk and the staädtische Park. Mohammed V mosque is also worth a visit.

In Oujda mild temperatures prevail all year round. The average is between fifteen and twenty degrees Celsius. During the summer months, however, the temperature may exceed forty degrees Celsius.
