Where is Mopti Located?

The port city of Mopti, located between the Rivers Niger and Bani in the Nigerians Delta, is sometimes called the “Venice Mali”. It is located in principle on three islands: Old Town, New Town and market (Medina Coura), which are connected by dikes.

Mopti (about 115,000 inhabitants) and its port are the economic centre of the Region, especially in trade, e.g. with fish or agricultural products from the whole Region. Also the famous salt from the Sahara comes here upstream from Timbuktu for further processing.
