Where is Meknes Located?

Meknes is a relaxing resort at the foot of the Middle Atlas. In the capital of the Meknès-Tafilalet region live about 596,108 people. The city is located in a fertile plain 60 km west of Fès. Most of the population lives from fruit and vegetable cultivation. Also peppermint is grown here in the city, you get the best tea in the country. In addition, the famous Babush (slippers) are made mainly in this Region. Meknés is one of the four royal cities of Morocco and therefore has many sights and historic buildings to offer.

History
From 1672 to 1727, Meknès was the capital of Morocco. During this period, numerous new buildings were built. However, after the death of the alaouite dynasty Sultan Mulai Ismail, his successor, moved the capital to FEZ. Meknès is known mainly for the local fraternities, including the Sufi order.
