Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar with a population of over one Million people. Located in the heart of the country on the Irrawaddy river, it is the economic and cultural center of the Upper Burma Region and is known for its university.
Since its creation only 150 years ago, the city has suffered various fire disasters, acts of war and the resulting looting. Nevertheless, or for that very reason, Mandalay is one of the most attractive and prosperous cities in the country.
