Where is Mandalay Located?

Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar with a population of over one Million people. Located in the heart of the country on the Irrawaddy river, it is the economic and cultural center of the Upper Burma Region and is known for its university.

Since its creation only 150 years ago, the city has suffered various fire disasters, acts of war and the resulting looting. Nevertheless, or for that very reason, Mandalay is one of the most attractive and prosperous cities in the country. The short but eventful history also makes Mandalay very interesting for Western visitors.

Due to the continental location of the metropolis, it is exposed to less rain than Yangon, 700 kilometres to the South, despite the subtropical climate. The river that feeds the city also ensures balanced temperatures.

With an average temperature of 33 °C it is best between November and February, in Mandalay, not to withstand when the maximum temperatures exceed 30°C and the nights are not colder than 20°C. Then, it is relatively dry, and get enough hours of sun during your trip.
