The Luray Caverns are the largest cave system in the eastern United States with about 26 hectares. The cave, designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974, is located just outside the city of Luray, in the immediate vicinity of Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwestern Virginia.
