Our family of four (two children aged 4 and 8 ) spent about 2 hours through the Museum and outdoor exhibitions. The first part of the museum is inside and has a beautiful exhibition in plantations and life during the late 1800s and early 1900s. There are many artifacts and signs to see and read. Then you can take a walk through a Garage type building in which besides numerous old carriages and tools. There are a bunch of neat things to discover but not much more than the essential information about the objects. Nevertheless, my children have at least 30 minutes in search of all the old treasurer. After all this, you can wander around exploring various old Plantation buildings (Slave Quarters, kitchen, school, chapel, etc.). . . . . . . . . . Each building is constructed as it would have been, but you can enter the buildings; you can only through the doors (except the chapel, which you can enter) . You can find many different types of original Cottages that come from different places in the state.

The Museum is surrounded by some open areas, an Arboretum, gardens, and several hiking trails. Since we were in July we didn’t have to spend too much time exploring this, but we could have had the weather cooler.

The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the employees. They were not unfriendly but they did not have much contact with us beyond accepting to spend the money. No guide or explanation was offered as we entered the room, and we were the only guests when we were there. All in all, it was a great family outing, and we would be able to come back.
