Where is Lincoln Park Zoo?

The Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago (Illinois), founded in 1868, is one of the oldest Zoological Gardens in the United States.over 1,100 animals from about 200 different species are housed on its 14 hectares of land. In addition to its biodiversity, the Zoo is also known for an ancient oak of the genus “Quercus macrocarpa”, which is dated to 1830, and is thus three years older than the city of Chicago.

Among the residents of the city on Lake Michigan, the Lincoln Park Zoo is especially popular because it is one of only a few public animal parks in the USA that does not require admission. Already in the late 19th and also in the early 20th century, the plant made various headlines through pioneering achievements in zoological matters. Thus, the first bison was born here in captivity and the primate house opened in 1927 housed with the Gorilla “Bushman” (1931-1951) the only Gorilla in a North American Zoo at that time. The former director of the zoo, Marlin Perkins, who was also known to many television viewers in the USA as the inventor and first presenter of the two immensely successful animal documentary series “Zoo Parade” and “Wild Kingdom”, played a decisive role in the great popularity of audiences from near and far, especially in the 1940s to 1960s.
