Where is La Rioja, Argentina Located?

The province of La Rioja is located south of the province of Catamarca and about two thirds in the mountains. In the West, the Andes rise, in the center the only slightly lower Sierras Pampeanas, which are geologically older. The climate is predominantly dry and the landscape outside fertile valleys steppe – or desert-like. From the tourism point of view, the West is particularly interesting, and here the Talampaya National Park is particularly interesting. However, tourism is not very developed except in Talampaya, the capital and the region around Chilecito.

What Country is La Rioja in?

La Rioja is sparsely populated: it only counts a large city, the capital of La Rioja with almost 180,000 inhabitants, and a middle city, Chilecito, with 35,000 inhabitants. All other places are under 15,000 inhabitants “strong”. Only the towns of Aimogasta, Chamical and Chepes have a certain significance as service centres.
