Kyoto has almost 1.5 million inhabitants and is one of the most important cities in Japanese history and culture and therefore a place worth visiting, especially for those interested in history and culture.

In the 8th century, Kyoto became the second capital of Japan under the name Heian-Kyo. Until the 19th century, the city was the residence of the Royal Court. The actual rulers of Japan were the Shoguns. While the powerless Japanese Emperor resided in Kyoto until 1868, the Shogunate was finally moved from Kyoto to the east coast with the beginning of the Edo era in 1603 and the city of Edo was founded.
