Where is Kimbell Art Museum?

At a respectful distance from the famous original building of the architect Louis Kahn, Renzo Piano planned an independent extension of the Kimbell Art Museum. The composition of glass, concrete and wood, framed by elms and Red Oaks, impresses with its reduction and lightness.

With its Cubature and materiality, the new building reflects the character of the old stock and creates a new access situation: visitors emerge from the underground car park in a green area between the new and old building and enter the Lobby flanked by two galleries over its elongated eastern facade. Through the glass facade in the East, visitors have an unobstructed view of Kahn’s masterpiece, on the other side of the partially buried, also new West Wing. Two glass tunnels create connections between the western and eastern parts of the museum.
