In the 14th century Kecskemét was first mentioned in documents and developed rather slowly. People focused on livestock and breeding.
During the Ottoman occupation, Kecskemét was bribed by those responsible, so that the Ottomans could not do any harm and the citizens were in safety. Even during the suppression of Austria, the landowner was sold and fruit was grown. The city then concentrated on the food industry, keeping its current size.
