Katerini (Κατερίνη). is a city, part of the homonymous municipality in northern Greece, main place of the prefecture of Pieria. It is located on the plain of Pieria, between the mountain Pierus and the Thermaikos Gulf, at an altitude of 14-45 meters. The city has 52709 inhabitants (2001 census). The distance to the second largest city of Greece, Thessaloniki, is just under 70 km, which has been of great importance for the development of the city in recent years.
