Where is Kaolack Located?
Kaolack, the capital of the region of the same name, is located in the west of Senegal north of Gambia and has about 200 000 inhabitants. The Region is often referred to as the” peanut Basin”, since the local economy is largely based on the processing and sale of peanuts.

Kaolack has a reputation for being one of the most polluted cities in Africa. There is no regulated waste disposal and many people do not have access to clean water. On the outskirts of the city there are large landfill sites on which the stench can become unbearable especially in the summer months. In Kaolack, outbreaks of Malaria, yellow fever and Cholera are regularly reported.
