Where is Kaesong Located?

Five months after its closure, the Kaesong Special Economic Zone jointly operated by North and South Korea has been put back into operation. Shortly after 8.30 am local time, the first South Korean managers, cars and trucks crossed the inner Korean border. Kaesong is located about ten kilometers beyond the border in North Korean territory and is an important source of foreign exchange for Pyongyang.

More than half of North Korea’s manufacturing, South Korean companies have ordered their North Korean workers in the factories, reported the South Korean news Agency Yonhap. About 820 managers and employees were scheduled to leave South Korea for Kaesong on Monday, and about half were expected to stay there overnight. “I hope we can work together as well as before,” said a 50-year-old South Korean Manager, who did not want to be named. “I am a bit worried because you can never know if the North will change its mind again in the future.”
