Almost 30 years after a spectacular art heist in Boston, the museum in question is seeking a higher reward to finally recover the famous paintings.

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is now offering 10 million dollars (8.9 million euros) for evidence that led to the return of the 13 stolen paintings by Dutch and French masters. However, this reward, which doubled from five million dollars previously, will only apply until the end of the current year, the Museum announced.

The robbers had stolen works by Rembrandt, Manet, Vermeer and Degas in one of the largest art thefts in US history in March 1990. They had entered the Museum disguised as police officers and overpowered security personnel. In 2013, the FBI announced that it had identified the perpetrators belonging to a criminal organization in the northeastern United States. Since then, the investigators have made some progress – but the thieves have not been able to find anything.
