Where is Hoover Dam Located?

The Hoover Dam is, as you can see by the name, a dam. It dams the Colorado River, which forms the border between Arizona and Nevada.

At that time it was decided to build the Hoover Dam, because the Colorado River rose too much in Winter during the snowmelt. The Colorado River flooded parts of the country and residents were threatened. In the summer, however, there was not much left of the flood and the farmers did not have enough water for their crops and their animals. Now they could control the Colorado River through the dam and decided to build a dam.

The Hoover Dam was completed in 1936. The 220-Meter-high, 379-Meter-long and 13-201-Meter-thick dam cost the lives of nearly 100 workers during construction. It owes its name to the 31st president of the USA – Herbert Clark Hoover.
